As I hand-sewed the pages of the spine of this book together using the Coptic stitch, I listened to stories from around the world that expressed how unpredictable and imperfect human beings are. Google’s new search engine currently being built to “learn what users want to know based on what they’re searching” is essentially building data bubbles based on perceived patterns. Human experience, perception, inventiveness and spirit cannot be boxed into an algorithm, as the human mind must be free to roam in order to grow. I look forward to collecting on the pages of this newly bound book useful words, gathered at random from the world around me – for there are other ways of learning besides the use of machines.
